Why didn't we Run?

One night after a fight with our parents you came into my room and you told me

“Why didn't we run when we had the chance?”

and as tears poured down my face you hugged me and told me you loved me. And as the truth burned in your eyes I longed nothing more than to run from that house with you and drive a lifetime away from there.

But 4 years later I’m still here and you are gone and you can’t come into my room any more and tell me you will take me away. And you can’t hug me and tell me you love me. And the only thing that I can think is
